Mechanical, Piping, Vessel & Stress

With our experience in design consultancy, we are well aware of the multiple targets a designer has to meet during the development process. We have a proven track record in providing efficient and practical solutions to optimise any design with respect to crucial design criteria such as strength, reliability, simplicity, weight and cost.  With our background in CAD modelling as the foundation, we have over 20 years’ experience in the area of stress analysis and FEA modelling.

Within our Piping, Vessel and Stress departments we utilise industry standard software packages in delivering solutions and analysing problems:

  • Static Stress
  • Fatigue and Life Prediction
  • Pressure Vessel Design
  • Pipework Stressing
  • Steel Structures
  • Composite Materials
  • Contact Situations
  • Dynamic Analysis
  • Vibration and Resonance
  • Shock and Impact
  • Seismic Loads
  • Non-Linear Stress
  • Drop Test Simulation
  • Snap-Fit Assemblies
  • Heat Transfer
  • Thermal Stresses
  • Fluid Dynamics
  • Air Flow in Compartments
  • Free and Forced Convection

We also utilise the following software to ensure all work meets the high standards we set ourselves:

  1. AutoCAD Plant 3D – Integrated 3D plant design engineering CAD software tools for the design and modelling of process, power, industrial, and manufacturing facilities.
  2. CAESAR II evaluates the structural responses and stresses of piping systems to international codes and standards.
  3. FE/Pipe is a complete and full-featured FEA package for the pressure vessel and piping systems. It allows On Line Design to analyse individual or multi-component geometries to consider the interaction between multiple nozzles, saddles, clips, lugs, bends, etc.
  4. NozzlePRO is a single-component analysis tool for piping and pressure vessels.  Analyse individual nozzles, clips, lugs or saddles.
  5. PV Elite performs calculations in accordance with ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2, PD 5500 and EN 13445. Rules from API579 (Fitness for Service) are also included for evaluating the current state and remaining life of existing vessels.
  6. Finglow, Engineering Software for the Design of Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers.in accordance with all the leading international codes of practice, including ASME VIII Divisions 1 & 2, PD 5500,  Stoomwezen and EN 13445.
  7. Navisworks – used for model simulations and model reviews.

Civil and Structural Design

OLG’s expertise ranges from complex moving structures to the smallest of car parks, if you want a 50m high process tower or a 15m deep sheet piled temporary works pit, we have delivered it, successfully. In the centre of London, or in the middle of the North Sea, our engineers have the experience, competence, and the understanding of not only the technicalities of the design solution, but the logistics of the build and the requirements of the end user.

We ensure the continued professional development of all our team from our apprentices to our Chartered Engineers and we utilise the tools to ensure that we can design efficiently and effectively whilst adding value.

We utilise the full Autodesk AEC collection, from Civils 3D and Revit on our building and civils work to Advanced Steel for our structural modelling and fabrication detailing. Using Tekla Building Designer, StaadPro and Tedds amongst numerous other design & analysis packages, OLG Engineering design to various levels of detail from concept and FEED through to Construction detail, but we will always step back and if required undertake some basic manual checks from first principles.

That understanding of the required level of detail transfers into our fully federated inter-discipline models, we can walk our clients through their project every step of the way. But we don’t just rely on digital engineering, with our co-ordinated laser scans, we undertake basic checks using our experience, blending modern technology with good old-fashioned engineering. We will walk the project with all stakeholders, enabling the design to become a fully collaborative effort, designing what our clients need, which might not even be what they think they want and certainly won’t be something OLG can re-badge from a similar project.

It goes without saying that we can undertake the Principal Designer role to cover CDM Regulations, undertake structural inspections or help get you through planning and building control, but we thought we would mention it anyway; if it involves Civil & Structural engineering, anywhere, we have it covered for you.
